This is a basic critique over an Art Show on Austin. It was for an Art Apreciation Class.

On the way out of the bookstore on Friday I went to the Houston Art Directors Competition. The exhibit was very interesting. I had no idea what it was about, until I started looking around. The first thing that caught my eye was the word SEX in really bold letters. Maybe these artist really know what they are doing, because it did catch my eye as soon as I walked around the corner.

They all turned out to advertisements of some sort. This was not a show for children. Most of the content was for adults. The second one was a computer mouse with the top of the cord that looked like a noose. On the bottom it was typed "Frustrated." I got a good kick out of this one considering how many people are actually computer illiterate. You would be surprised once you started asking around about just how few people know how to navigate a computer.

Along the line was one done out of platform shoes. I really like the way they expressed this one. All the heels of the shoes were great buildings of time (i.e. Leaning tower of Pisa, Eiffel Tower). At the top the work had something written along the lines of "Great walks in fashion."

My favorite was an advertisement with mixed drinks on it. One of the drinks was a Hurricane; they had the umbrella inside out. (Actually looking wind blown) Underneath the drink it said "Cover from a Hurricane." Another drink was Sex on the Beach. They had only half of the cover on the straw in this one. And it said "Protection for Sex on the Beach." There were more drinks with catchy phrases.

Each advertisement was done with great thought and meticulously. I enjoyed seeing the different ways...
