Bricks in the Wall The Story of Pink Floyd Pink Floyd is one of today's most predominate and influential rock bands. This band is famous for it's musical imagery that often uses many different styles and techniques to achieve the mood they want their listener to feel. One could say that Pink Floyd is today's equivalent of a classical composer with an orchestra.

Floyd originated at Cambridge High School in Cambridge, England with Syd Barrett (born Roger Keith Barrett, January 6, 1946, Cambridge, England), Roger Waters (born September 9, 1944, Cambridge, England), and David Gilmour (born March 6, 1944, Cambridge England). The three teenagers were students at the Cambridge High School. They started a band with Waters on guitar, Nick Mason on drums, Rick Wright on keyboards, Brian Close on lead guitar, and Clive Metcalf on bass. They called themselves a variety of names, but were most known as The Abdabs.

The Abdabs fell apart in 1965, and almost immediately Barrett, Waters, Mason, and Wright created their own band called The Pink Floyd Sound, named after two blues musicians in Barrett's record collection. They later became known as simply Pink Floyd Britain's psychedelic movement had just begun with Pink Floyd as the leaders. Their first major album, The Piper at the Gates if Dawn, help Floyd achieve their first chart success and started their touring career as well. During this set of tours, Syd Barrett began overindulging in hallucinogenic drugs and often appeared comatose on stage and incoherent to interviewers. When the band finally began to worry, they brought in Dave Gilmour to play guitar, while keeping Barrett behind the scenes.
