Burial Customs -There is evidence that in some cases that the corps were tightly bound before burial.

-There are primitive societies today which practice similar rights.

-The purpose of secularly binding the body is to ensure against return of the dead, or return in a spiritual form.

-They did this because they were worried that the dead would rise and haunt the living.

-The ritual binding of the body at the time of burial is felt to be a deterrent to the return of the spirit as well.

-A motive may have impelled prehistoric man to perform the same rituals on the bodies of the dead.
