The environment is becoming a bigger issue than ever due to the rapid growth of technology. In Nigeria the clash between ecology and technology is causing quite an issue between government and Nigeria vast number of ethnic groups. Due to the social unrest in Nigeria thousands of good people are dying in vein. Shell oil is a main contributor to the problems in Nigeria and are catching much of the verbal assault.

A Brief History and Overview of Nigeria

Nigeria represents an estimated 300 ethnic groups since 1914. Nigeria gained its independence from the United Kingdom on October 1, 1960. When Nigeria receded its independence it formed three states, the Hausa-Fulani, Igbo, and Yoruba. The problem with the formation of these three states was that 297 other ethnic groups got their recourses exploited to feed the needs of the three major groups.

On January 15, 1966 the Federal prime minister and two regional premiers of the Yoruba and Hausa-Fulani regions were killed leaving Igbo major general in control of Nigeria.

The majority ethnic groups were in favor of one break up of the country but the minorities wanted political restructuring into state which lead to civil war. In 1993 a civilian government was to take over but the result was Sani Abacha, leader of a coup, declaring himself as chief of stat3e. Sani Abacha and his repressive regime were responsible for Nigeria to be rated the most corrupt country of 54 in the KPI's extensive survey.
