1. Introduction

The assignment aims to provide an overall assessment of a proposed shipping trade route for combined bulk ships (OBO's) in the Indo- Arab Gulf (India and GCC countries) region along with an outlook until year 2012. A trade pattern will be suggested for the region that would maximize utilization of the OBO. Also, optimal ship size, considering the suggested trade routes, is offered and explained.

In addition, latest technical advancements as well as updated bulk ship design requirements and challenges will be presented that could put combined carriers back on track to providing reasonable service and streamlined switch between dry and wet bulk cargo.
