Coming to the states: Descriptive essay about what I saw and felt when I first came to the US

My plane landed and I felt a sense of apprehension overcome me. As it came to a screeching halt, I anxiously stared out of the window in the dark trying to catch a glimpse of anything, anyone. Oh my god! I thought to myself, this is it I am finally here,. "I am in the United States of America!!!" I had woken up one day and my family and I had to flea my country, because of the civil war. Left with no choice we took what we could and came to the states.

I was so nervous and excited at the same time as to what was awaiting me. When the door opened and I stepped down from the plane, I felt a blanket of safety wrap its arms around me cover my whole body like a warm blanket being wrapped around me. I knew right there and then, that I am going to be okay.

A warm breeze brushed my face and I sighed a sigh of relief. "I am safe now" I said to myself.

As we drove from the airport I noticed how wide the streets were. I barely saw any mountains. Billboards were all around the streets shouting out the latest fashion trends or movies. I was so excited I couldn't contain myself, I was staring all around me even at the passers by. At the corner down one of the streets I saw a homeless person snuggled against some boxes, smoking his pipe away and staring a the sky. This reminded me of what I used to see in the movies. Yeah I am here this is going to be home.
