Commentary "On my first sonne" How does the poet Ben Jonson use structure and language to convey the message of the poem?

In the poem "on My first sonne" the poet uses different language techniques of language and structure to convey the message of the poem. The main message of the poem is to demonstrate how the poet or the narrator feels because of his loss which is in this case his son, a development between sadness, confusion, acceptance and joy occur in this poem.

The poet uses firstly uses the title of the poem "on my first sonne" to demonstrate what the poem is about, the poem is based or written "On my first sonne", "sonne" is relatively speaking about his son, his first son which a parent ussualy takes care of more or even loves more.

After the title of the poem, connotations of "farewell", "lent", "sinne", "seven yeeres","joy, "pay" and "just day" might mean that the narrator didn't want his son to go but he was taken from him "on the just day".

God took away the child after "seven yeeres". The child had only been "lent" to the narrator but his "sinne was too much hope of thee" (the narrator's sin expecting too much from the child) and because of this he has to "pay" for those "seven yeeres" of "joy".
