Accuracy of data input is important. What method of data input would be best for each of the following situations and explain why:

The best method of data input for printed questionnaires would be the use of a scanner with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software. OCR readers are able to convert handwritten and typed questionnaires into digital form. The use of OCR reduces human error in data input and makes it easier to search for any specific facts required.

Telephone surveys should be input using a process called voice recognition. Voice Recognition transcribes the spoken word into digital data.

Most bank checks are input through electronic scanning known as MICR: Magnetic Ink Character Reading. Banks are no longer required to physically present checks in order for them to get paid.

Electronic scanning reduces errors and speeds up the whole process.

Retail Tags -The method of input that would be best for retail tags is a handheld scanner or some type of scanner that must be moved over the image to be scanned into the computer system at the store. The reason for choosing a handheld scanner is that it will help to make the data processing quicker than keying in the numbers on the retail tags.

Long Documents - The method of input that would be best for long documents would be a keyboard. The individual is able to return to the document and add text and edit without having to type the information over.
