Throughout The Scarlet Letter many conflicts unfolded and many where told about, but still keep in the dark. Mr. Hawthorne Beautifully wove a bountiful amount of conflicts into his classic work of literature. One character that was confronted with numerous conflicts was Arthur Dimmesdale. He was involved with conflicts between Himself, Other Characters, and the society that he lives in.

Dimmesdale was at constant war with himself because every thing that he had once believed in was thrown out the window when he engaged in sexual relations with Hester Prynne. Although he tried to keep these actions a secret they crept out through his actions and his overall change in Lifestyle. To help him try to get past his own guilt that was tormenting him and gnawing at his heart he would fast he had vigils he even craved an A into his chest to represent his Sin.

Dimmesdale also was fighting with himself about the fact that he could show no outward display of affection to Hester or Pearl in that manner and this also ate at him until ultimately he admitted publicly to his sins.

In further discussion of the conflict that came before Dimmesdale I will speak to his conflicts with others. He was confronted with conflicts from all over the place but mainly from Hester and Chillingworth whose conflicts some what intertwine. Dimmesdale and Chillingworths conflict was because of what happen between him and Hester. You see Chillingworth was Hester Husband. When he found out what had happened with his wife, he vowed to never rest until he had gotten his revenge. Chillingworth also tortured Dimmesdale he would give him fake medication and pressure him into giving details slowly killing Dimmesdale from the inside.
