Cracker Barrel Old Country Store has been around for quite sometime. The thing that makes this company unique is that they have a restaurant and a retail store linked together where you can purchase gifts or souvenirs and have a good home cooked meal. They have very unique merchandise as well as a unique taste. These are the key ingredients for any Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. The purpose of this article summary is to explain how Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is using continuous improvement efforts.

The first improvement CBRL Group made in 1998 was forming their leadership team. The company's president, Ronald Magruder, was doing a fine job, but the group saw that they needed more for their improvement team. A young man by the name of Richard Arras, who was the president and chief operating officer for another family dining chain called Perkins, left his position there to take on those same responsibilities at Cracker Barrel.

The forming of the leadership team was only the beginning of the company's plans.

Next, Cracker Barrel purchased another chain of restaurants called Carmine's. This restaurant was originally founded in Florida. Now that Cracker Barrel owns it they are opening up two more Carmine's restaurants, which will also be located in Florida. Not only do they have this brand new project, but they also set a goal in 1998 to open 50 new Cracker Barrel Stores during the fiscal year of 1999. This became a reality for the company when they went from having 200 stores to having 374 stores in 35 states. These are some pretty amazing improvements for the CBRL Group.
