Create a Problem Statement-Kudler Fine Foods

Kudler Fine Foods aims to be the premier gourmet grocery store for savvy shoppers who are searching for the finest meats, produce, cheeses, and wine. Owner/Founder Kathy Kudler has challenges to overcome to accomplish this vision. One challenge is the company's small management team. Reorganizing the management structure will give Kudler Fine Foods the ability to operate in a more productive manner to fulfill their goals set out in their vision statement.

"Management is the process used to accomplish organizational goals through planning, organizing, leading, and controlling people and other organizational resources" (Nickels, McHugh, & McHugh, p. 184). It is a manager's job to give direction to the organization, provide leadership, and decide how to use their organization's available resources to accomplish their goals (Nickels, McHugh, & McHugh, 2008).

I will use the four functions of management, planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, to demonstrate how incorporating these principles can increase their success.

The first primary function is planning. "Planning includes anticipating trends and determining the best strategies and tactics to achieve organizational goals and objectives" (Nickels, McHugh, & McHugh, p. 183). Kathy has begun this process by creating a strategic plan. One goal of Kudler Fine Foods could be to form/hire planning teams. Planning teams monitor the environment, find business opportunities, and watch for challenges (Nickels, McHugh, & McHugh, 2008). These planning teams can research the best areas to open new stores. Kathy could also hire a manager whose sole responsibility would be overseeing the setup of the new stores: purchasing equipment, hiring employees, ordering products, accepting deliveries, etc.

"Organizing includes designing the structure of the organization and creating conditions...
