What is critical thinking? This is something one must ask when faced with a difficult situation where more thought is needed. Critical thinking plays an important role in the success of each situation we are faced with on a day-to-day basis. Utilizing critical thinking will make the decision process easier and more accurate. Because of the importance and benefits of critical thinking each situation we are faced with should be analyzed more carefully to ensure the outcome of their decisions.

"Critical thinking is that mode of thinking - about any subject, content, or problem - in which the thinker improves the quality of his or her thinking by skillfully taking charge of the structures inherent in thinking and imposing intellectual standards upon them" (Paul & Elder, 2001). Critical thinking allows for an individual to identify weakness in their thinking. The individual must be willing to reconstruct their thinking to make it better and more accurate.

Critical thinking allows an individual to analyze a particular situation and draw up conclusion that a more fact based rather than opinion based. Critical thinking is performed by top level management to make decision that will affect the well-being of the organization. Once on has adapted to the process of critical thinking it will become natural. This is a habit that will be most rewarding in one’s life time. When making decision one must follow a series of step to analyze the decision properly.

The University of Phoenix nine-step decision making model identifies the steps one must take to make decisions. Framing the problem has three parts. Identify the problem, define criteria, goals, and objectives, and evaluate effect of the problem.
