The Invasion of the Body Snatchers is not simply a movie but a study of humanity. The movie makes us wonder what humanity really is, and what we would be without emotion. The Invasion of the Body Snatchers is in this sense much like two works that we have studied this year. 1984 by George Orwell is a study on what humanity is, and why we need love to survive. An Enemy of the People shows how important public opinion really can be.

Body Snatchers is extremely reminiscent of the great literary work 1984 by George Orwell. Both works have two lovers pitted against an inhuman society. The two works show attempts to fight against the inhumanity, and both works show the failure of the leading character.

The key difference between the two is Winston is concerned with what is wrong with himself, more than what is wrong with everyone else.

Matthew in Body Snatchers is more concerned with what is happening to his society. He is not concerned about his own good so much as everyone around him and what is wrong with them. Body Snatchers is a showcase of the power of seeming paranoia, and what it means to be human

In 1984 Winston and Julia wonder whether it is they who are wrong, or society that is wrong. They know they are alone in society and wish to call on groups, such as the Brotherhood, to aid them in destroying the party. They are unsure whether they are alone in their feelings but are content with being together and being rebels. In contrast, Matthew and Elizabeth are confident that humanity exists in the beginning.
