Introduction

Marketing is used in every business, marketing can be as simple as word of mouth or an elaborate campaign. When businesses want to be more widely known they rely on marketing to get the word out on the company and the products or services that they provide to a diverse customer base.

Defining Marketing

Marketing is a tool that a business develops to reach out to their current and potential customers to increase sales of the product or service. An effective campaign can make promises to the customer's, then the company needs to deliver and make good on the promises. Knowing the customer base can be helpful to develop an ad that customers can relate to, catch phrases like, "What's in your wallet? "Capital One and "A better job awaits" Career Builders. Career Builders and Citibank both have commercials I can relate to, I find them to be funny, informative and I remember what they are selling.

Marketing Definitions

The way in which a product or media text is sold to a target audience.

(Media Literacy) The process of making customers aware of products and services, attracting new customers to a product or service, keeping existing customers interested in a product or service, building and maintaining a customer base for a product or service. (Nuffield Primary D&T, 2002)

Ad Campaigns

Citibank has an identity theft commercial where it shows a burly type guy, but when he talks it sounds like a young girl who had stolen his identity. The commercial goes on to tell you how the person does not feel like it she was stealing. They have quite a few diverse commercials that raise your awareness to identity theft; I always shred my mail and anything that has pertinent information on it. Even if you do not...
