Domestic Violence

Abstract

Domestic violence is a devastating problem in the homes of American citizens. While some, more extreme cases make the news and create awareness, most go by undetected until the point that it is too late. It is imperative for society to become familiar with the signs of domestic violence so it can be handled effectively and to the full extent of the law.

Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is an extreme issue plaguing society resulting in nothing but a broken reality that love is not always love after all. Think of all the parts of a life that are broken from domestic violence: families, homes, bones, and trust. The worst outcome is that of death that occurs more frequently than society would like to recognize. It is crucial for society to increase knowledge regarding this devastating issue so it can be dealt with swiftly and with the most severe consequences that can be legally enforced.

One of the strongest barriers to providing help is that victims do not come forward to report the abuse. The victims that do come forward rarely pursue the charges, making it difficult for the justice system to prevail (Wagner, 2007). In order to recognize domestic violence, one has to understand who, where, what, when and why it occurs. These will all be addressed in detail so that every reader can be armed with the knowledge to stop this violence before it claims someone that they truly love.
