Due to the evolution of technology, businesses big and small have come a long way. Before the advancement of technological know how, a brick and mortar business was the only option in owning and operating a business of any kind. However, since the invention of the internet, businesses can now employ technology to get in touch with other businesses and individual consumers all around the globe. The internet plays a pivotal role in changing how business in conducted across the world. The use of the internet has caused an enormous flow in the economy worldwide. Business-to-Business (B2B) commerce knocked the scales over at $1.41 Trillion in 2003 (Naraine, 2003). That same year Business-to-Consumer (B2C) commerce compared at $90.1 Billion (Naraine, 2003).

Every single purchase, be it B2B or B2C, requires transportation to respective buyers which is where business supply chains come to pass (Schneider, 2004). Although many consumers believe that B2B and B2C company supply chains are identical, it is not true.

The supply chains of each type are extremely different and have distinctive qualities of its own. First off, this paper will define the word supply chain. Then it will further examine the supply chains of B2B site and a B2C site. Lastly, it will compare the "look and feel" a B2B site versus a B2C site.

According to the authors of Supply Chain Management, 2nd edition:A supply chain consists of all parties involved, directly or indirectly, in fulfilling acustomer request. The supply chain not only includes the manufacturer and suppliers, butalso transporters, warehouses, retailers, and customers themselves. Within eachorganization, such as manufacturer, the supply chain includes all functions involved inreceiving and filling a customer request.
