The electoral college is the method of choosing the president and vice president. This process begins in late summer when parties choose their nominees for president. Voters cast their ballots for president evey four years on the first Monday in November. The voters are not directly voting for president and vice president, but they are voting for all of their partys electors in their state. In December of that year these electors will cast their offical vote for president and vice president. I fell the electoral college is needed. As in the previous election, the electorial college can be the deciding vote in times of contraversy. The electoral college acts as the finall voice. I feel that this winner takes all system is fair for eveyone, even the looser of the popular vote. This system allows the looser of the popular vote to win the electoral vote.

If a third party candidate is a strong presidential contender and recieves enough votes to prevent either major-party candidate from recieving a majority of the votes, this third party candidate could bargian to release electoral votes to one of the two major-party candidates. This means the third party candidate can vote for the candidate who's intentions best fit the needs and wants of his voters. This is another example of why the electoral college is needed. The electoral college is also needed in cases such as that in Florida in the 2000 election when voter error, or ignorance, is a factor. When their are such cases asthese mentioned, the electoral college if rightfully so the deciding factor.
