Jazz Concert Review

" Eric Darius"

I arrived at 4:45 PM, expecting the concert to be in the lounge area of John Ascuaga's Nugget, where I have seen performances in the past. However, it was standing room only for Smooth Jazz 92.1 concert series featruing Eric Darius in the Orozko's Lounge

Eric Darius an up and coming sax phenom who is now out on his own, he now has three CD's and is on the fast rack to smooth-jazz stardom.Eric has performed with many musicians such as: Winston Marsalis, Paquito D'Rivera, Richard Elliot, The Rhinehart Brothers, Richard Smith, Ed Kai, Al Downing Jr., Allan Sims, Buster Cooper, Shawn Brown , Belinda Womack, Theo Valentine, and Tampa's popular jazz group, Etc.

Eric Darius came out pleased the crowd from the monent he walked out. The sound went out to the casino floor , where I saw moving and grooving to the smooth sounds coming fromthis brillant sax man.

I had a great aerial view, so I could hear the music while watching Darius as he palyed off the crowd. Playing his saxaphone in a cool, fluid ,often as if he had been doing live concerts for years.

The young sax player started with selections from his first CD " Night on the town", Darius reallly pleased the crowd with " Love TKO". As the two hour concert proceeded Darius got into his newest CD release "Just Getting Started", he displayed his freewheelin' style with more crowd pleasewrs such as "Steppin' Up" and " Got it Goin' On".

The evening ended way too soon, Darius looked like he was genuinely having a great time entertaining the packed house. The music was highly listenable and widely enjoyed by a wide range of ages. many who were just walking through the...
