The Significance of Music
Think about a world without entertainment, a world without music. Not only would it be a very boring world, but also it would also not be educational in a way. In old and/or new songs, there is a lesson to be learned or a lesson being taught. An example of this is every song in the "School House of Rock." What I am trying to say is that music is important because it teaches you a lesson and it can set you in a totally different mood than you were in beforehand.
If you have not noticed, in every single song you have heard recently, the artist is teaching you usually about a lesson in life that you are going to encounter someday. For an example you can listen to a rapper named Nas single hit called, "I Know I Can." In this song, he talks about crack and all the bad drugs out there that are easily to get hooked on, going into adult clubs underage, and about people being raped or killed.
Not only that, in his music video Nas and the kids say, "I know I can (I know I can) Be what I want to be (Be what I want to be) If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it) I will be where I wanna be (I will be where I wanna be.)" This is telling people mainly kids and teenagers not to do anything stupid in life and work hard at it, and you will be able to achieve all of your goals in life. For an incentive, Nas tells everybody that they were really wealthy and had kingdoms before gold was converted into money. This is a well-known song and so far I do not...
Fluffy
This is fluff. First of all, use of first person doesn't belong in a formal essay. Secondly, your whole point is that music can change your mood. So? Is this really important information? You back up your idea by talking first about people you know and then by telling a story about yourself. Doesn't exactly add up to "common knowledge"!
Basically, quoting rappers in your essay makes your credibility nosedive. It's all downhill from there. Just because "music puts you in a different mood" doesn't mean anything--it means something for you, but it doesn't prove your theory.
Needs major development!
