Ethan is a nice guy that does good for other people. Ethan Frome's pathetic

fallacy is that he is too nice and too caring. Ethan has to take care of his mom and

farm, Ethan cant leave the farm to Zeena and run away with Mattie, and he wants

money from the hales but he doesn't want to ask.

Ethan has to take care of his mother and the farm. He was going to go to

college and become an engineer but his mother became sick and couldn't take care

of the farm. So Ethan had to give up his dreams and help care for his mother and

take care of the farm. Zeena was helping to take care of Ethans mother and Ethan

decided he had to marry her because he felt that he owed her for helping to take care

of his mother.

Ethan would have gone back to college after his mother died but Zeena

became complicated and Ethan had to stay and care for Zeena and the farm. Which

shows that Ethans pathetic fallacy is that he is too nice and too caring.

Ethan doesn't want to run away with Mattie and leave the farm to Zeena because

if he left her the farm she wouldn't be able to take care of the farm and she wouldn't

be able to sell it. Ethan cant do this to Zeena because he is not that kind of person that

would leave them with a big responsibility and when they're sick too. Also the people

of Starkfield would look down on Ethan for leaving Zeena while she is sick for Mattie

and leaving Zeena with the whole farm and she would be lonely. Ethan's pathetic
