At the mercy of the ever-accelerated updating of information and communication technology, there are rapid changes in all aspects of the nature of work. These changes are the result of the advances in information and communication technology such as telecommuting, teleconferencing, and even e-commerce. Although information and communication technology can offer the potential benefits to employees and employers, such as, reduction in travel, maintain competitive advantage and so on. These changes in information and communication technology which have brought improvements to work and organizations have been more beneficial for employees.

To begin with, the information and communication technology can reduce travel, and bring changes in the workplace that is potentially beneficial for employees. Mann and Holdsworth (2003:197) claim that 'workers are able to spend less time away from home and thus use the time which they might otherwise have wasted on traveling or being in the office, with their family or children.'

In addition, Moriarty and Kennedy (2002:3) have shown that employees that work at home with a computer can saves on time and money, commuting costs and stress, and perhaps even clothing costs. These views reveal that information and communication technology has brought about changes in the nature of work which have not only saved time but also reduced costs. One informal report even indicated that many teleworkers would require a doubling of salary to induce them to work full time in the office again. (Wilde, 2000, cited in Moriarty and Kennedy, 2002: 3). From the data above, it can be clearly seen that as a result of information and communication technology, the changes in the nature of work have been more beneficial for employees.
