Explain how the face of terrorism has changed throughout history?Terrorism has existed since the beginning of civilization, and has grown through the ages. Throughout history the face of terrorism has changed immensely. In early times most terrorism was carried out by government (parties or groups), some described it as politics. Now terrorism could be described as a social protest, and is mainly carried out by groups and individuals of the public.

The roman emperor Nero used terror to maintain authority of his nation by ordering the execution of anyone that was suspected of plotting against him. Conspiracy theories tell us that Nero burnt down Rome in order to build a new Rome, one that was stronger, larger and under his control; it also inflicted fear into the people. If this is true, then Nero used his own method of terrorism against the people so they would not disobey him, so they would be loyal to him.

1792 - 1799 could be remembered as the years of the Reign of Terror, and a significant event of terrorism in the world. During these years the French government was trying ruthlessly to establish authority following the revolution. Anyone who did not support the revolution was an 'enemy of sate', and in some cases the guillotine was used for execution. Louis XVI was one of the first political victims of the guillotine. Other methods such as using cannon fire and drowning were also used. These methods used in the Reign of Terror against anti-revolutionists, created and instilled a fear into the minds of the public. Not many of these people, after the Reign dared to speak up or oppose against the revolution.

In the 19th and 20th century the form of nationalist terrorism arose and began to strengthen. People now had more freedom...
