Should Stricter Gun Control Laws be Implemented in America?

Go into your home, turn on the TV, and watch the news. Chances are that you're going to hear about some crime that recently happened involving the death or injury to someone by a gun. Over the years in America, gun violence has continued to be a talked about issue that has drawn much controversy. Crimes have become so severe that many have consider the act of taking away American's rights of owning these lethal weapons, claiming that it will bring a safer America. Others believe that it takes away our Second Amendment rights and that by doing it will only make matters worse. To further investigate the issues behind gun control I decided to pursue the question, Should Americans still be given the right to bear arms? This question needs to be explored because the longer we wait to find a solution to this problem, the longer the problem will exist, increasing the likelihood of major crimes reoccurring.

The right to bear arms dates all the way back to the Constitution and Second Amendment in 1791. If they were to take away Americans' right of owning a gun, then they would be affecting this Amendment. Those for gun control believe that they should start taking away people's guns. In "The History of the Right to Bear Arms," from the Opposing Views database, Sandra Alters states that "Gun control advocates say there is no longer a compelling need for people to "keep and bear arms" as there was when the Constitution was ratified in 1791 (Alters para. 3)." Reading this made me start to think and realize the real reason why Americans were given that right...
