The book starts off with Frodo and Bilbo Baggins planning a big birthday party for Bilbo. As they are planning, Gandalf, a wizard, arrives to help them set up the party. Near the end of the party Bilbo gives a speech to all the other Hobbits in the town. Once his speech is finished he disappears, by putting on a magic ring. Later, when Frodo gets home from the party, Gandalf tells Frodo what was going on. So gandalf leaves and returns nine years later and tell Frodo he must leave with the ring. I thought the beginning of the story started off a little boring. Then towards the ending of the beginning it began to build suspense.
In the middle of the book Frodo leaves his hometown with his friends Sam and Pippin. They planed to head towards Rivendell. On their journey they encounter problems with a tall dark rider, nearly escaping him every time.

After that they meet up with a group of elves who give them shelter for the night. Then the four of them stay at a small inn and meet up with a man called Strider. Strider then takes them to Rivendell. I liked the middle of the book because it had a lot of suspense.
Towards the end of the story, at Rivendell, the hobbits were told they must destroy the ring. So they set out to do so with Gimli, Legolas, Gandalf, Aragorn, Boromir, and themselves. On their journey the group encounters many troubles, including a fierce battle in the Mines of Moria, where they barley escaped with their lives.
