Ferry near Battery Park

The name of the art museum I attended is the Boca Museum of Art located at 501 Plaza Real in Boca Raton, Florida 33432. The name of the exhibit is "Return to Realism" by Yvonne Jacquette. Yvonne Jacquette's exhibit contains oil canvases, sculptures, and paintings.

The work I chose is called "Ferry near Battery Park" by Yvonne Jacquette. The work of art was created in 1981. Yvonne Jacquette made this painting with oil on a canvas. The approximate size of the painting is seventy-six by sixty-two inches. I arrived at the art museum and started circling the different rooms. Then I saw it, all those bright, vivid, stunning colors. There was turquoise, red, yellow, peach, blue, and pink. This work of art combines elements of realism, form and content. The painting has such realism, the sense that the idea of ordinary people and everyday activities are worthy subjects for art.

This is a New York subject painting. The painting shows a contemporary landscape of Manhattan from the viewpoint of Yvonne Jacquette. It shows a nocturnal view of the city's homes, factories, buildings, ferry, the ocean, and coast line. She painted it at dusk and illustrated the elevated position of the high-rise buildings and homes. These buildings, houses, and ferry all have elongated windows that are decorated with vibrant colors that glisten in the dark. There is also a ferry in the ocean that shows the audience the work of art took place in Manhattan.

Form is the total physical characteristics of an object, event or situation. In this case it is the painting. Content is the meaning or message contained and communicated by a work of art.
