A career is a series of engagements by an individual in work assignments spread over time and roughly corresponding with some form of plan or pattern in terms of the skills, knowledge, and attitudes currently required or required after training and education. "Careers are unique to each person and are dynamic, unfolding throughout life. They include not only occupations, but per-vocational and post vocational concerns as well as how persons integrate their work life roles". (Work info, 1998, para 6) Life is a never-ending learning experience. One of the most important lessons a person can ever learn comes from within.

Career Goals and Objectives

Goals and objectives provide us with focus for our lives. These goals and objectives are determined largely by our values and world view, interests, aptitudes, and sense of social responsibility. Long-term career goals consist of plans we make for our future. I started out in my profession as a production-line operator while I completed my electronic studies at a technical school.

Once I obtained my certificate, I applied for a technician position at a DVD manufacturing company. I am a quick learner and am willing to take trainings to augment my experience. I have been able to assume greater responsibilities and add more value to my organization. For the next five years, I believe I will have continued to learn and hope to grow into a management position with more responsibility.

Possible Career Alternatives for the Future

A possible career alternative for the future would be opportunities within my current organization. Instead of having to climb that mythical ladder into management, I may find other options within my organization, such as a lead technician. As a known quantity, my current organization is more likely to risk letting me experiment with a new position. Therefore, a lateral...
