The Birth Frida Kahlo was born July 6 1907 in Coyoacan a suburb in Mexico city. Originally named Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderon, by her parents. Her father was one of Mexico's foremost photographers, and the son of Hungarian Jews from the German town of Baden-Baden who immigrated to Mexico and married Fridas mother Matilde Calderon, a Mexican of Indian and Spanish ancestry.

The Life Fridas father had a big influence on her life. He recognized and encouraged her intellectual independence and curiousity. At the age of seven Frida was afflicted with polio, a disease that deformed her right foot and stunned the growth of her right leg. Her father nursed her back to health. He encouraged her to play sports. Frida Kahlo was an active participant in the Mexican Revolution. Frida Kahlo lived in a time of incredible world wide movements, the Mexican Revolution occurred three years after she was born.

In 1925 Frida was involved in a tragic bus accident that cased her to be put through several operations as many as 35 over the coarse of her life. It was through during her slow recovery and bed ridden state that she learned to paint. Frida married the Famous Spanish muralist Diego Rivera August 21 1929 , after receiving her fathers consent. She was Diego's 3rd wife of four, and than his 5th. Rivera inspired her to continue painting after she showed him some of her first pieces of art.

Education Frida attended a preparatory school in 1922 where she first met her already famous husband Diego Rivera. Kahlo never attended school for art she was self taught.
