George W. Bush, Freedom and Fear - September 20, 2001
George W. Bush the 43rd president of the United States of America addressed the country on September 20, 2001 nine days after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City. The president gave a powerful informative speech to the nation, addressing the people after the attacks on 9/11 against the United States and its citizens. As soon as he started talking about 9/11 every listener attention was brought in because this was the most important thing happening in the world at the moment. President Bush informed the country about his future plans to bring justice to what happened on September 11 and he also gave hope to the country and its people by saying "This brings hope and inspires Americans that although this disaster has occurred, America can still shine on and live on".
Even though the country was going through a difficult time the president wanted the citizens to be calm and resolute.
The president started and introduced his speech by thanking people all over the world for their prayers, for playing the national anthem in their countries, by giving us their support on that tragedy and for unfurling the flag of the United States of America. He also thanks the congress for its leadership at such an important time, he says that "All America was touched on the evening of the tragedy to see republicans and democrats joined together on the steps of the capital singing God Bless America", and also by delivering $40 billion to rebuild the communities and meet the needs of the military.
