Assignment Name: The Chase By Annie Dillard
Annie Dillard's The Chase is about the author and her friends throwing snowballs at passing cars. She threw a snowball at a Black Buick which resulted in a chase. The owner got out of his car and chase them through every backyard in the neighbourhood Annie and her friend Mikey was his targets. They finally stopped because they were out of breath and very tired. The man caught up with them and said "you stupid kids!"
The purpose of the essay is to feel what it is like being chase by an unknown pursuer through a child's experience. I could tell she was terrified because of the different questions she was asking in the last paragraph. In my opinion, there is a lesson to be learn from what happened; don't throw things at strangers' cars.
It is the same thing as do not talk to strangers.
The Chase is written in the form of a flashback writing. This is telling a story about something that happened in the past. For example, Annie was a kid when she and her friends got chased by the man in the Black Buick. Her writing piece was vivid because of how descriptive it was (description of the car and backyards they went through) and it captured the imagination of the reader as in he/she may have wanted to witness or be a part of the experience.
