Gingivitis is a disease that occurs in the mouth and is due to lack of oral care. Gingivitis is the inflammation of the gums around the teeth because of bacteria buildup. Not brushing your teeth leaves the bacteria there and it starts to decay your teeth as time passes. Gingivitis can also be known as the first step of periodontitis.

Gingivitis has been around for a very long time. There was a term for gingivitis called trench mouth. It got this nickname in World War 1 when it was most common among trench bound soldiers.

Gingivitis affects all people but it tends to lean more towards children ages 6 through 12. Although many adults have it children do not prefer to brush their teeth the required amount of times a day. Children also happen to get it because it has been proven that kids eat more candy and sugars that decay your teeth than adults do.

When you eat sugars are candy especially before you go to bed and you don't brush your teeth your mouth is not active and bacteria like dark, warm, and moist areas to spread. You sleep for 8-9 hours so just imagine how much bacteria is forming in your mouth while you are sleeping!

There are many signs and symptoms of gingivitis in your mouth. One of the first signs of gingivitis is blood on your toothbrush after you are done brushing your teeth. Another symptom is an inflammation of the gums or dark red gums or gum lines. Other signs may be: gums that have been pulled away from the teeth, infection including purulence (pus) between the teeth and gums when the gums are pressed on, permanent teeth that are loose or separating, any changes in the way your teeth fit together when...
