In the sport of golf the lower the score the better. So obviously the goal in this sport, is to get a low amount of stokes. With that in mind, you would want to play more warily and prevent losing your ball or hitting it in hazard areas; which include water, sand bunkers and hitting it out of bounds. Some of the things that you need to keep in mind while preparing your setup are the grip, the ball position and the alignment of the feet. Another key point is the short game. If your driver or tee off does not go as far, then your short game will help. All these key points will help you improve your golf scores.

In the game of golf the most important thing is the setup. The setup consists of the grip, ball position and alignment. For the grip you need a tight, but not hard grip so you can hold something in your hand.

For example, you should be able to hold an egg, without crushing it. The second thing you must keep in mind is ball position. Ball position for irons including 9,8,7,6,5,4,3 start from the middle and keep going to the left as clubs get longer, and also goes the same for woods. For instance, the nine iron is in the middle and three is more to the left side. The lower the numbers the longer the clubs, vice versa the higher the number the shorter the clubs. The final part in the setup is alignment. When you stand, your feet must be parallel like train tacks never meeting. Keep your feet at shoulder length apart.

In addition to setup, the short game is important in succeeding to top your game. Some elements of short game are putting, pitching and chipping. In the short game you should bend your knees and keep low. Never move your head or the ball will not go where you want it to go. The length of your back swing depends on two factors, the distance you are from the hole and the thickness of the grass. Experiment with this during your practice, through a process of trial and error.

Putting, one of the most crucial part of your game is also the most intense part of golf. You must be calm, and relaxed. You should have a light grip and gently sweep the putter back and then forward all in one motion. While doing this make sure your arms and shoulders form a triangle. This triangle should remain a triangle during the putt. While putting, watch for breaks, and down hill and up hill putts. For down hill putts restrain the amount of power that is used.

During an uphill putt you use a little more power. The grip for putting is up to you.

What ever feels more comfortable then use that grip. Practice in these areas can keep your score low and make you a better player.

In conclusion, these key points will make you a better golfer and help you lower your scores. Setup and short game are the two main points. Take your time to practice in these areas and success will come in no time. Practice! Practice! Practice! The more you practice the lower your scores will be.
