When I read the book "Hatchet", I reacted in a way that I seldomly do with books. With most books I read, I take a long time to finish. With the "Hatchet" it did not take ne long at all. I could not put this book down. I kept wandering what would happen to Brian next.
One of my favorite things about the book was the setting. I love the outdoors, and this book took place mostly in the Canadian Wilderness. Brian had many encounters with animals and other kinds of natural forces. Another thing I liked about this book was its conflicts. In "Hatchet" Brian faces many challenges in the wilderness.
The only thing that could have possibly been better about this book was the writers style. Gary Paulsen did a good job with this book, but there was one thing I did not agree with.

First edition coverHe kept writing fragments that took me a while to understand. Once I did understand, the book was easy to follow.
I would reccomend this book to people who love the Great Outdoors. I think that people from the ages of 10-15 would enjoy this book especially if they like the outdoors.
After reading this book I will appreciate some of the more simple things such as matches and pots and things like that. Brian's survival would have been much easier if he would have had a book of matches and some pots or pans.
