EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The main topic that the author highlighted is on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). In order to understand thoroughly on CSR including its definition, role and benefit, the author emphasises on the CSR activities carried out by The Hershey Company (commonly known as Hershey). Hershey which is a global organization that produces, markets and sells chocolate and confectionery products involves itself in CSR since year 2009 and focused in four areas.

The author has chosen Hershey for this research because Hershey held the 7th spot in 2010 CSR Index report. Besides, Hershey Mexico also won Socially Responsible Company award and Environment Protection and Natural Resources of Mexico award.

CSR IN GENERAL

In this era of globalisation, more and more companies are engaging themselves in CSR activities. "There is emerging evidence that effectively implemented, CSR can have significant impact in motivating, developing and retaining staff" (Industry Canada, 2011). Most of the CSR companies will make a research on benefits of CSR before engaging in the activity. CSR activities can bring uncountable benefits to the company if the activities are successful but if they are not, companies may end up losing in many aspects.

THE HERSHEY COMPANY (HERSHEY)

The Hershey Company, Hershey (2011) is an international company that produces chocolate and sugar confectionery and has approximately 13,000 workforces. Hershey which is the largest manufacturer of quality chocolate in North America, markets its products in 70 countries.
