American Legion Headquarters

The American Legion is one the most influential organizations for supporting our veterans and teaching the youth about national pride .The American Legion is an Organization that informs the youth about community programs, promotes patriotism and a strong national security, and helps our fellow veterans. They were founded in 1919 by veterans of WWI and their first meet was held in St. Louis. The Legion constructed a preamble and constitution which was later chartered by U.S. Congress in 16 September 1919. In 1943, Harry W. Colmery writes the "GI Bill of Rights" and in 1945 President Franklin D. Roosevelt signs and turns it into the Servicemen's Readjustment Act. American Legion also is the leading cause for the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act, signed by President George W. Bush in 2008 and the Veterans Health Care Budget Reform Act of 2009, passed by President Obama in 2009.

The Legion has been at the forefront for many Acts passed by the government and has made a lot of leading organizations that are now at the top of their field what they are today. They are still pushing for a lot of things but one them is a constitutional Amendment to protect the U.S. flag from physical desecration. The Amendment got passed by House seven times but in 2006 being the last attempt, it fell short in the Senate by one vote.

The American Legion is a very influential organization that is creates many other organizations like the National Association for Mental Health, the The American Legion Child Welfare Foundation, the Family Support Network, the Citizens Flag Alliance and many more.
