THE HOBBIT The book I chose to read and write my book report on is called The Hobbit. The author of this amazing fairy tale character adventure is J.R.R. Tolken. The author has done a wonderful job at making this book come alive to the reader. This story takes place in a majestical land long long ago. The characters in this story are sometimes odd and mischeivious. They are all different from each other except in one way, they are all adventureous. The main characters in this exciting novel are Bilbo Baggins (the hobbit), Gandalf (the wizard), Thorin (the grandson of the king under the mountain), Smaug (the meanest and least fearful dragon in all the land), Dwalin, Balin, Kili, Fili, Dori, Nori, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, and Bombur. All of these characters were dwarves except for Bilbo and Gandalf. My favorite character in the story is Bilbo, in the beginning he seems weak and cowardly but when he is needed and his friends are in trouble later he is strong and brave.

All of the dwarves think that he is a liability and a hassle to put up with at first but soon they start to respect him.

The story starts out with Bilbo on his front porch smoking a cigar after a hearty breakfast and Gandalf coming up to him. He and Gandalf had to be reaquainted after Gandalf's absence for so many years (Gandalf had gone on many adventures). Once they got through talking Bilbo had begun to get anoyed and told Gandalf in so many words to leave his house. But Bilbo did promise Gandalf tea the next day. The Next day at tea time there was a knock at Bilbo's door. Bilbo had just remembered about the promise the day before and answered the door.
