Abstract

This assignment aims at comparing and contrasting the external business environment and cultural characteristics of Japan, China and the USA, as well as how these differences impact on the conduct of business operations of an international business entity which has a presence in all three countries. Firstly, some of the cultural differences of the US, Japan and China are discussed, with particular focus on cultural differences in communication. How these differences can affect a multinational enterprise is then explored, with reference to some examples of cultural mistakes made by international business firms in the past. Secondly, the external business environments of these three countries are examined, focusing mainly on the political, legal and economic differences of the external business environment of Japan, China and USA. Finally, how these differences can impact on an international firm doing business in these three countries is also explored.
