Introduction to sociology

I chose myself to write this paper about. I know my roots, my culture, my family, and the social problems in my country and how they affect my behavior.

I was born 21 years ago in Mar del Plata city. Mar del Plata is the first tourist city in Argentina. My father, my mother, my two older sisters and I compose my family. As soon as I was born I was given an ascribed status that is " a social position that someone receives at birth or assumes involuntary later in life " (p.140, J.Macionis). My ascribed statuses are Argentinean, daughter, sister, niece, cousin and granddaughter. As I grew older, I got different achieved status, which is " a social position that someone assumes voluntarily and that reflects personal ability and effort " (p.141, J.Macionis). My achieved statuses are student, friend, girlfriend, foreigner and bilingual person.

I have not had any serious psychological problems through my life.

Maybe, it has to do with my first three years of life when thanks to my mother and father I could develop trust laying the foundations for a healthy personality (a person's fairly consistent patterns of acting, thinking, and feeling - p. 115, J.Macionis -). My family is a functional family. We have a good relationship among us. My parents taught my sisters and I a sense of right and wrong, which is Kohlberg's second stage, the conventional level." It appears by the teen years, young people lose some of their selfishness as they learn to define right and wrong in terms of what pleases parents and is consistent with broader cultural norms " (p. 121, J.Macionis). I believe that my sisters and I are whom we are because of our education and values, which have been given to us through our...
