John F. Kennedy was a great leader because he improved civil rights for the Negro Community. He also prevented a war with the Soviet Union.

I will prove all of my arguments by looking back into his life.

John F. Kennedy was a great leader and has good leadership skills. He was a good skipper of the PT boat because he knew what to do when the Japanese Destroyer, that cut his boat into two pieces. Even though he had injuries of his own but he still saved a crewmember with a broken leg and swam with him until they found an island, there he looked for help and found it. When they got back, he was treated for malaria. He received two medals; one was a Purple Heart and a Marines Corps for saving his crewmember.

John F. Kennedy was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, on May 29, 1917. His father, Joseph Kennedy, was a rich businessman who later became an ambassador to the Great Britain.

Kennedy went to Harvard University, Cambridge, and Massachusetts. He was married in 1953 to Jacqueline Lee Bouvieur Kennedy and they had three children, one daughter and two sons but one son died in infancy.

After he was honorably discharged from the Navy because of his back pain, which was never cured. He took his brothers' position because he died in World War II. After one year of being discharged from the Navy, he went in to politics. At the age of 29 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives as a Congress from Massachusetts. Then he ran for mayor of Boston and was elected and stayed Mayor for three terms. After his three terms were finished he became an ambassador for America in Great Britain while Roosevelt was in office.

Kennedy wrote a book named "Profiles in Courage", it is a collection of biographies about earlier lawmakers. He wrote this books when was in the hospital recovering from his injuries. This book won the Pulitzer Prize in 1956.

In 1952 he was elected to the Senate and helped Massachusetts and New England. He Sponsored bills to help local industries like Fishing, Text tile Manufacturing and Watch making. He also served on the Labor Committee and the Government Operations Committee. He was nominated for president by the Democratic.

After he got nominated he was campaigning every weekend and showed outstanding qualities of leadership and intelligence and be came a very popular candidate. His opponent was Nixon from the Republican Party in the election for president of United States of America. Kennedy promised to lead America to a "New Frontier". Many Democratic leaders thought that Kennedy had many disadvantages as a presidential candidate because he was a Roman Catholic and no Catholic ever elected was a president.

Most of the experts thought that Nixon would win but they were wrong because Kennedy won by twelve Hundred Thousand votes and became the 35th American president and the youngest ever elected to office. In his victory Speech he said, "Do not ask what your country can do for you but think what you can do for your country". In his first year as President he worked for laws to help the poor people of America with better housing and higher wages. He also founded the United States Peace Corps, which helped all over the world. Kennedy also encouraged the development of the U.S. Space program.

When he was in the Council he sponsored a bill for all of the restaurants, stores, schools to permit any one from any race to work for them, but the bill never passed. When he was the president he said " The time has come for the Congress of the United States of American to join with executive and judicial branches in making it clear to all that race has no place in American life or law". After he was assassinated his bill finally passed most of the racial discrimination was gone. The first Black student James Meredith to go to a Mississippi college was the first step.

Kennedy worked for a more friendly relationship between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. When he was President the Russians made nuclear missile base in Cuba and the American were telling the Russians to take out the missiles or risk having a war the Russians never acted for a while but they took all of the missiles out of Cuba and went back to Russia. Even though the Russians took out the missiles Kennedy didn't want any one to gloating, because he thought that they both won because no lives were taken.

On November 22, 1963, President was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. The whole world mourned for the young president. No one knew how many people were involved in the killing of the president. A Commission was set up to investigate the crime. The commission concluded that a man named Lee Harvey Oswald had shot Kennedy and no one else was involved. Then Oswald was shot while they were trying to transport him to a different jail. No one will ever know how much Kennedy would have done for the country if he had lived longer. His ideas still inspire people throughout the world. If he was still alive he could have aided in so many things that took place in the United States and around the world today.

As I look over my work I think that John F. Kennedy was a great president and he had lots to offer to the world. He also had great ideas on how to make this world a better place for every one and any one without judging people by their race or color. I also think he was a man with a great vision for the future but unfortunately his big dream was cut very short by Lee Harvey Oswald.
