Do you think that killing Lennie was the right thing to do? I do. Believe that killing Lennie was the right thing to do, because if he didn't then Lennie would have died a slow, cruel, painful death if caught by the ranchers. Another reason why it was good for Lennie to die is because if they ran away and were caught they both would have been punished for Lennies crime and stupidity. Thirdly it was better for Lennie to die because he would continued a cycle of death and pain that would have stopped them from completing their dream. In the following paragraphs I will explain my three reasons.
My first reason why Lennie should have died is because; he could have died a slow painful death if caught. My reason for saying this is that in the book when Curly found his wife dead he immediately wanted to hurt Lennie.
Another reason why is because this would have been the perfect excuse for Curly to hurt Lennie. Also Lennie died thinking happy thoughts and did not realize his death. It was quick and painless. Lastly George would have moaned the death of his friend if he didn't do it himself. He would have made the same mistake as Candy.
My second reason is if Lennie and George ran away and were caught; the ranchers would have thought it was a set up and punished or killed them both. I don't know if you get it but that is not a good thing.
Thirdly it would have continued an endless cycle of death and pain that would of stopped them from completing their dream. This would have affected Candy as well because then he would not be able to pay for most of the ranch and they would...
Killing Lennie
While yours is not a bad essay, I disagree that George was justified in killing Lennie. Of course, Steinbeck's book "Of Mice and Men" is fiction and the ending could thus be rationalized as a good way to finish the novel. In real life, there is little justification for a civilian taking the life of another human being, short of self defense. In taking Lennie's life, George was playing God and nobody has a right to do that.
