In 1870, Russia's first and most significant leader was born in Ulyanovsk (formerly, Simbirsk). His name was Vladimir Llyich Lenin and his rule over the Russian people would have great affect on his nation and other nations alike. Once Lenin came to power as the first communist leader, his rule would be the model for the future dictator of the world; Lenin's leadership would affect Russia's economy and its relationships with the rest of the world.

In order to understand how and why Lenin came to power, one must know a brief past of him. When, Lenin was young he was not a very wealthy person in terms money. Lenin's older brother was convicted of being part of a plot to kill Czar Alexander I and was sentenced to death; he was only 17 years old. This act of killing his brother added onto the rage Lenin had towards the czars; "his brother's death led him to join the revolutionary movement to overthrow the monarchy."�

Lenin, determined to do something about the czar's ways, began to read and adopt Marxist ideas. Lenin believed that Karl Marx was precise with his belief that the proletariats would end capitalism forever. Today historians agree that Marxism affected the acts and ideas Lenin persisted. Marxism came into full affect in November of 1917 when "the Bolsheviks took over the city of Petrograd ad proclaimed a socialist revolution."� This revolution against the provisional government gave the Bolsheviks full power over Russia and it's people.

Once Lenin and the Bolsheviks were in full power Lenin they began to take certain actions to ensure their power would not be challenged. Naturally, every leader has a group of people who do not care for them. In 1921, Lenin defeated his enemy, the Whites, by establishing...
