The Lion King-Simba

A hero is one who can look fear in the eyes and laugh. He can tackle any obstacle and come through on top. There are few who can live up to these heroic expectations. Though it may seem silly, a lion from an animated movie is the first character that comes to my mind that depicts the qualities of a hero. This is no ordinary lion though; he is a lion that triumphs over many barriers, his name is Simba. Simba's life is full of much pain because he believes he is the cause of his father's death. He overcomes these hurdles and grows up to be a powerful lion king, after realizing his father's death was not his fault. Simba shows what I think are the three main characteristics of a hero: bravery, determination, and strength.

Bravery is one of the main symbols someone should look for when trying to determine whether or not a person, character, or author displays the qualities of a hero.

In The Lion King, Simba's uncle, Scar, drives Simba out of his home by making him believe that he was responsible for his father's death. After many years of hiding in pain and anguish with his new friends Timon and Pumba in a serene forest, Simba's friend Nala finds him, while hunting for food. Simba returns to his homeland which is being torn apart by his Uncle Scar and his allies, the hyenas. Simba, Timon, and Pumba return to Pride Rock and fight to regain control of his kingdom. With the help of the other lions, they defeat Scar and his cowardly hyenas. The bravery Simba displays is that of a true conqueror and defender.
