Is Azerbaijan a Good Place to Live?

Living in Azerbaijan would benefit the average citizen for now, but the economy could see a downfall in the upcoming years. Azerbaijan has very strong education, government and health. On the other hand, Azerbaijan may see a decrease in the economy due to lack of trading exports, lack of land and a high cost of living.

Based on the GDP of Azerbaijan, which is 5.7%, the country has a very strong quality of life. With such a high GDP, the economy is expected to grow greatly which means more money is flowing through the country. The downside in the Macroeconomics part of Azerbaijan is the high inflation rate of 8.1%. Such a high inflation rate suggests that the cost of living is probably pretty high and most of the average citizen's income is used up on common goods.

The GDP per capita of Azerbaijan is $5,720 U.S. dollars. This figure is very low, and may cause a lot of financial problems in the country with the high cost of living. Citizens may not have enough money to support their families, a low GDP per capita means the average person does not have much money to spend. Azerbaijan's unemployment rate is 6%, this will boost the quality of life for citizens because more people will have jobs. More jobs means more income, even if the income is sucked up by the high inflation rates.

Azerbaijan's distribution of wealth is pretty high, 31.7%, as of 2012. The impact on the everyday life of citizens would be positive because the majority of citizens have high net worths and own nice things. The first real problem we come across with Azerbaijan's economy is their trade deficits with non-oil related products. The trade deficit would impact the country negatively because instead of putting all the income made from oil towards bettering the country, they have to pay non-oil related debts, taking away from the people of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan's climate is subtropical in the eastern and central parts, alpine-like in the mountain regions. The average temperature in the capital, Baku, is 77 degrees in July, 39 degrees in January. Average rainfall for the entire country is 6-10 inches. The quality of life would be pretty good considering these statistics. The country never gets too hot and never too cold. The people living here could do a variety of outdoor and indoor activities. The little amount of rain does make it hard to grow crops, this takes away from potential income.

Azerbaijan's population as of July, 2011 is 8,372,373. The population growth rate is only .846% as of 2011. With such little land, Azerbaijan's population is pretty high. There isn't much room for adding businesses or farming. This puts a negative effect on the quality of life. The good thing is that the growth rate is pretty low, meaning there won't be a big decrease in the little open land.

Azerbaijan has one of the fastest growing student markets in Central Asia. All students start education when they are 6 years old and it ends when they are 17 years old. Baku is home to many universities. With such a fast growing education system, the future generations will be very intelligent and should be able to maintain a good economy. Since the countries children start learning early, they will grow up with skills needed to be successful. All of this leads to a strong, smart economy.

The leading cause of death in Azerbaijan as of 2011 was prematurity. No children were killed by AIDS, Malaria, or the Measles. The average life expectancy for men is 66 and 70 for women. The quality of life is impacted pretty positively by the lack of AIDS, Malaria and Measles. A lot of people are killed by those three diseases in other countries. The life expectancy is also very positive for the quality of life. People of Azerbaijan have a lot of time to be successful.

Over 90% of Azerbaijan's exports are oil and oil products. The other 10% is mostly machinery and transportation equipment. For right now, the oil export will boost the quality of life in Azerbaijan, but oil is a resource that will soon run out. When the oil sources are gone, Azerbaijan's economy will fall steeply. Machinery as an export is good, that is something that will always continue to improve and be needed. The country can make a lot of money off of machinery and transportation equipment.

For 2012, Azerbaijan's main trio of trading partners was Italy, US and France. Over the reported term (Jan-Apr 2012), Azerbaijan's exports to these countries accommodate for $343.346 million. The trio of countries that Azerbaijan trades with is good for the countries quality of life because they are all countries that use a lot of oil/gas products. Gaining so much money from trading with Italy, US and France is a good economy boost and once Azerbaijan's trade deficit is paid, they will profit greatly.

Azerbaijan has a Republican government. Three branches of government, Executive, Legislative and Judicial. Azerbaijan has a very organized government which is good for the quality of life because they will be more organized. Having a Republican government is also good for the quality of life since the people in the country will be able to make their own decisions and they will have more power. With a branch of government directed towards courts (Judicial), the crime rate is pretty low since heavy punishment comes with breaking the law.

In conclusion, Azerbaijan is overall a pretty good place to live. There are more benefits to living there than there are negatives. Strong education, low unemployment rate and a strong government ensures that citizens living in Azerbaijan will have many opportunities to be successful and be intelligent. As long as Azerbaijan can keep a constant supply of oil and start using non-oil related products as main exports, the economy will continue to grow and citizens will prosper.
