Many authors of the late 19th centurey wrote novels about action and adventures. Some of those authors wirite novels that will turn into movies. Michael Crichton is one of those authors. He has written such novels as Jarrassic Park, Sphere, and Congo, which have all turned into huge hollywood productions. Michael Crichton's lifes expirences, his use of literary devices and what other people think of his work influence modern society. John Michael Crichton was born on October 23, 1942. His arents are John Henderson Crichton and Zula Crichton. He was born in Chicago but moved when he was six to Rosylyn, New York. He was the oldest of four children. He was the first of his siblings to get published, the New York Times published an article of his when he was 14. He was very happy with that, that he decided he wanted to write the rest of his life.

In high school Crichton was a basketball player, he was 6'7" in the tenth grade. He graduated from Roslyn High School in 1960. He then decided to go to Harvard University and become a writer. At Harvard, his writings were critisized and he received poor grades. He decided that it was harvard, not him, that was the problem. To prove his theory he retyped a paper by George Orwell and turned it in. The paper was given a b-, so Crichton was convinced Harvard was too hard for him and changed his major to anthropology. He later got in trouble for plagurism for copying Owells Writing but was aquited. Crichton graduated Harvard University in 1965 with a 3.8 GPA, which shows later how brilliant of a writer he is. He also payed for all of his schooling by writing.

When Crichton left college he served as a postdoctural fellow at the Salk Institute for Biological Science from 1969-1970. He then decided to write full time, Many people thought it was a bad decision Because of a loss in social status, they compared it to quiting the supreme court to work as a bail bondsman. Crichton has won the Edgar Award twice. He directs movies also, hes directed such movies as "The Great Train Robbery", "Coma", and "Westworld". He is a very succesful producer as well producing and creating "E.R", "E.R" has won 8 Emmy's. Crichton has a great knowledge of computers and technology, in 1982 he created a computer game called "Amazon", he also was owner of a company that made accounting software for corparatons and buisness'.
