Questions in chapter 2

QUESTION#1 - How can management team justify dealing with a subcontractor based in a country in which human rights are being widely violated?

The primary reason why a management team will subcontract a particular work in another country is because of lower labor cost. Meaning, the labor cost is cheaper.

However, to prevent the subcontractor from committing any human rights violations, the management team can put up mechanisms in place to address and protect the human rights of the workers.

For example, the management team must work with the subcontractor to:

#1 improve workplace conditions

#2 end racial, religious, and gender discrimination

#3 elimate the worst forms of child labour

#4 avoid forced or compulsory labour

#5 increase access and availability to essential products and services for those living in poverty ( like health care ).

So as long as the human rights of the workers are protected by the management team and the subcontractor, the management team can still justify dealing with a subcontractor based in a country in which human rights are being widely violated.
