The Manson Family

Charles Milles Manson, born November 11th 1934, was a very unusual person with an ability to dominate others. He was the creator of a vicious, religious cult around himself. The media later called this cult "The Family". At one point the cult had reached over one hundred people at the Spahn Ranch, which was located 30 miles north of Los Angeles Ca. Charles was called both "Satan" and "God" by his followers.

As the family's leader he claimed to be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. Manson was a serial killer who never committed any murders himself; he would hypnotize his followers to do exactly as he said.

The "Family" used drugs such as marijuana and LSD. Manson believed in free love and testing with drugs. Followers of Manson came from all over the world. They thought they had to go to the desert and bring along all the children that they could convince to join the cult. Children were not excluded from anything. This "freedom" was what the younger people wanted. They could participate in sexual activities, experiment with drugs, or use guns and drive cars. Manson's ranch became a home for runaways, people in trouble with they law, and hippies. Charles Manson did not like the hippies.
