This article is on the effects of marijuana on a human. It states that people do not believe it has negative effects, but in actuality it does. Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States. When smoked, it begins to effect users almost immediately and can last for one to three hours. It Says the short term effects, the effects on the brain, effects on the lungs, on the heart, and other negative effects.

I chose this article, because like my other essays it is on of the most commonly used drug in the nation. This means that situations concerning this topic I will probably effect me sooner than other topics. I have been in this school for less than a whole semester and have been asked, multiple of times, if I wanted to smoke weed with them. That is why I chose this topic because it is going to give me more knowledge on the subject and what negative effects come with smoking.

The short term effects are that distorted perception ,problems with memory and learning, loss of coordination ,trouble with thinking and problem-solving, increased heart rate, and reduced blood pressure. With being in college full time this would not be good for me because if I were to smoke I would have more trouble in school because I would not be able to think and learn normally. If I had to study for a test I would have trouble memorizing what I needed to so that would be a bad choice.

There are also effects of marijuana on the brain. Those such effects include Hallucinations, delusions, impaired memory, and disorientation. The THC in the marijuana act on cannabinoid receptors on nerve cells and influences the activity of those cells Many cannabinoid receptors are found in the partss of the brain that influence pleasure, memory, thought, concentration, sensory and time perception, and coordinated movement. This tells me that when under the influence of weed, you cannot really truly safely operate any machinery. Like for instance driving while having the effects on the brain, just isn’t a good idea.

Another major effect of marijuana is that of the heart. Within a few minutes after smoking marijuana, the heart begins beating more rapidly and the blood pressure drops. Because of the lower blood pressure and higher heart rate, researchers found that users risk for a heart attack is four times higher within the first hour after smoking marijuana.

Anything that increases my chances of dying probably is not a good idea. I look at my grandfather and see that he has heart problems now, and if I were to smoke then my chances may be way higher.

One of the more bigger effects is that on the lungs. Obviously if you are smoking anything you are harming your lungs. It may not directly harm your lungs but it causes it to be more susceptible to disease. Scientists have found that regular marijuana smokers can experience the same respiratory problems as tobacco smokers do, including daily cough and phlegm production, more frequent acute chest illnesses, increased risk of lung infections, and obstructed airways. With me just having surgery on my throat and still having a small hole in the back of my mouth, smoking weed would not be a good idea. The idea of having another throat infection, that would be horrible.
