HISTORY
McDonald's Corporation is the world's largest chain of fast-food restaurants
The company was founded in 1940 with a restaurant opened by siblings Dick and Mac McDonald, but it was their introduction of the "Speedee Service System" in 1948 that established the principles of the fast-food restaurant. However, the company today dates its "founding" to the opening of CEO Ray Kroc's first franchised restaurant, the company's ninth, in 1955.
He opened his first McDonald's in Des Plaines, Illinois in April 1955.
In 1954, Ray Kroc joined Dick and Mac McDonald's Restaurant at San Bernardino, California. They decided to open up several restaurants across the country.
The first restaurant was set up in 1955 in Des Plaines, Illinois. The 1st day's revenues were $366.12
1965, McDonalds went public by offering 100 stock costing $2,250 on the stock exchange. These shares by 2003, would have multiplied to 74,360 shares and valued at $1.8million.
"Big Mac" was introduced in 1968 followed by "Egg McMuffin" in 1973.
"Happy Meal" for kids was introduced in 1979 to make every child smile and collect toys and boxes.
