Medusa was a Libyan Goddess who was worshiped by The Amazons. She was imported into Greece as one of the Gorgons, daughter of Phorcus and his sister Ceto. The sisters Sthenno and Euryale were immortal but the third, Medusa, was mortal. All three were so hideous, that the shock of seeing them would turn anyone into stone, which I found very interesting. The Gorgons had three other sisters named the Graeae and their hair was gray from birth. They had only one tooth, and one eye, which they had to share because they had one body. Medusa is called The Gordon or simply, Gordon.

Instead of hair, they had live snakes, but Medusa, was once a beautiful maiden. Because of her boasting that she was even more beautiful than Athena, the goddess of wisdom, stripped her of all her beautiful qualities leaving her the hideous monster of infamy. Because of her appearance, Medusa has the power to turn anyone who gazes upon her to stone.

Medusa had an affair with Poseidon she got pageant with two children, Pegasus and Chrysaor. They were sprung from Medusa's neck when Perseus cut her head off. This myth of Medusa and Perseus is one of the most well-know ones. Perseus was the son of Zeus and Danae. King Polydicse sent him to get Medusa's head. He is given magic winged sandals, a caps and a paunch from Hermes. He first had to go to the Graeae because they were the only ones who knew the way to the Gorgons. They refused to tell Perseus who to get to Medusa, so Perseus took their only eye, the one they share, and made a pact with them. In exchange for the information he sought, he would return their eye back.
