Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. He is the greatest basketball player of all time. He is probably the most recognized athlete to play on any sports genre, and he is known to everyone in the whole world as a great basketball player. He has won a huge number of awards, titles, and championships. "His leaping ability, vividly illustrated by dunking from the foul line and other feats, earned him the nicknames 'Air Jordan' and 'His Airness'." (Wikipedia) Even though he has retired from basketball now, he will still be known as the greatest athlete ever in NBA history, and will remain as the greatest for a long time.

Even though Michael Jordan was born in Brooklyn, his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina when Michael was still a baby. Michael's family consist of his parents James and Delores Jordan, two older brothers, one older sister, and one younger sister.

To support this big family, Michael's parents worked hard to provide their family with a comfortable lifestyle. James Jordan worked at an electric plant and his wife labored full time at a bank. As a child, Michael loved playing sports especially basketball, baseball, and football. Jordan's love for basketball increased because he had to play one on one against his brother Larry. Michael Jordan attended Laney High School. The famous story everyone knows that occurred in Jordan's high school years was that he was cut from the varsity basketball team when he was a sophomore. This was a shock to him, but he did not give up. He trained and worked harder to join the team the next year.
