Michael Jordan is a role model for many young people today, because of all of his accomplishments and achievements throughout his career. Including things ranging from numerous NBA awards, business ventures, and charity efforts. He is without question one of the greatest basketball players ever, with even getting voted to the fifty greatest players team on the leagues fiftieth anniversary.

Michael Jordan was born on February 17, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York. Going from Brooklyn, he went to North Carolina University to play basketball (Greene 27). While in college he was a part of Olympic Gold Medal teams and also played on the Dream Team 1 (Krugel 12). Jordan did not always play basketball. In high school he got cut from the varsity team, and was told by his coach that needed work. So he went and played baseball his junior year in high school.

In 1993 he retired from the NBA, after his father, James, was killed in a robbery outside of North Carolina.

The suspects did not even know that he was Michael Jordan's father, they just saw a Mercedes, and an opportunity (Kruge l4). He stated that basketball held no more challenges for him. He turned to baseball for the challenge. Playing for the Whites Sox, Jordan was quick and good at defense, but could not do enough with the bat. Finally in March 19, 1995 he returned to the sport that he was the best at, basketball (Looss 63).

Playing for the Bulls, Jordan was named MVP in 1988,1991,1992,1996 and 1998. He lead the Bulls to their Sixth NBA Championship in 1998 and added a MVP Trophy, after losing out to Karl Malone in 1997.
